Neuro-Therapeutic
Center Neurology
Associates offers a broad range of therapeutic services tailored
to the treatment of individuals with neurological disorders
and disabilities. While many of these neurological treatment
services are offered in conjunction with local and regional
providers, many are also offered in the comfort of our own Hickory,
North Carolina office.
Our neurological therapy & treatment
services include the following:
Botulinum toxin administration
(Botox)
Botuinum toxin injections are approved for treatment of cervical
dystonia in adults to decrease the severity of abnormal head
position and associated neck pain. Certain forms of botulinum
toxin are also approved for the treatment of strabismus, blepharospasm,
spasticity, and chronic migraines. Botox therapy blocks the
nerve from releasing acetylcholine. As a result, the muscle
spasms stop or are greatly reduced, providing relief from symptoms.
Vagal Nerve stimulator adjustment
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is a type of treatment in which
short bursts of electrical energy are directed into the
brain via the vagus nerve, a large nerve in the neck. The
energy comes from a battery, about the size of a silver
dollar, which is surgically implanted under the skin, usually
on the chest. The device delivers small electrical stimulation
bursts every
few minutes. Select providers with Neurology Associates are
skilled in making adjustments to this device to optimize control
of a patient’s seizures.
Trigger point injections
A trigger point is a portion of the muscle that has become a
source of pain and dysfunction. A trigger point injection
can help to eliminate the pain. While the trigger point is
being injected, the patient may briefly experience the same
pain that has been previously aching. Two to three days after
injection, the patient should notice a decrease in pain along
with increased freedom of movement.
Deep Brain Stimulator adjustment
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a brain treatment in which
mild electrical signals stimulate your brain. The signals
reorganize your brain's electrical impulses, causing improved
symptoms in many conditions affecting your brain. You
may have deep brain stimulation on one or both sides of
your brain, depending on your condition. This device is
mostly used to treat individuals who suffer from essential
tremor, Parkinsons disease, and some forms of dystonia.
Select providers with Neurology Associates are skilled
in making adjustments to this device to optimize control
of a patient’s
particular condition.
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve
Stimulation) Therapy
Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is
a therapy sometimes used to treat localized or regional
pain. During TENS therapy, electrodes deliver electrical
impulses to nearby nerve pathways — which can help
control or relieve some types of pain.
